Teachers
Do we need to have everything planned before we get in touch?
Not at all. Some teachers come with dates and details ready to go. Others start with a rough idea and a lot of enthusiasm. Either way, we’ll help you with the next steps.
How much support do we get during planning?
As much as you need. Your JCA team will guide the process, share the right resources at the right time, and help keep everything moving without overcomplicating things.
What about safety, welfare and individual needs?
These are built into how JCA trips are planned and delivered. Accommodation, routines, dietary needs and medical information are all considered as part of the process, with straightforward guidance available if you need to share details with SLT or parents.
Where should parents go for more information?
The Parents’ Hub is the best place to point them. It covers what to expect, answers common questions and explains the benefits of JCA trips in a clear, parent-friendly way.
Who’s responsible for supervision on the trip?
Teachers and group leaders remain responsible for their groups, while JCA instructors lead activities and provide on-site support throughout the stay. It’s a partnership that keeps things running smoothly.
Parents
Are JCA trips accessible?
Accessibility varies by centre and activity, so schools can discuss specific requirements with JCA in advance.
Can children take mobile phones with them?
This depends on your school’s policy, and they will let you know the expectations for the trip.
Can my child choose who they share a room with?
Rooming arrangements are organised by the school to help everyone settle comfortably.
It’s my child’s birthday during the trip — what happens?
Teachers usually acknowledge birthdays while keeping the trip’s routines running smoothly.
What if my child feels homesick?
Homesickness is common at first, but busy days, supportive teachers and clear routines usually help children settle quickly.
What if my child forgets something important?
Teachers are used to helping children manage forgotten items and will find simple solutions if needed.
What if my child has a medical condition or allergy?
Schools collect medical and dietary information in advance so the right support can be arranged before the trip.
What if my child has never done activities like this before?
Many children try these activities for the first time on a residential, with instructors guiding them step by step.
What if my child isn’t very sporty?
JCA activities are designed so everyone can take part at their own pace, with encouragement rather than pressure.
What if my child loses something while they’re away?
Teachers handle lost items calmly and practically, and most things are found once bags are unpacked.
Who looks after the children during the trip?
Teachers stay with their groups throughout, while JCA instructors lead activities and manage the centre.
