Look beyond expectations at Mount Cook!

Located on the outskirts of the Peak District in Derbyshire, Mount Cook provides children with an adventure centre that breaks down the barriers schools find between learning and safely utilising the natural space the UK countryside affords.

Overlooking Wirksworth and the Ecclesbourne valley, schools are welcomed to an area with a rich history. Groups can discover the old mining sites complete with preserved mine shafts and kilns as well as fossils at the neighbouring National Stone Centre.

The unique location not only offers panoramic views across the Peak District, but overlooks the jagged face of Black Rock. Its position allows for easy access from the North, South, and London region with the M1 opening up an opportunity for schools to provide their children with a residential adventure experience in an outstanding natural space.

One dedicated instructor per group

We believe in our JCA instructors building a rapport with your group. In order to support group leaders in identifying development areas and highlight achievement, we are committed to our instructors remaining with groups for the duration of your stay. This is why we work on a unique policy of no more than 1:12 instructor to child ratio (maximum activity group size is 12 children).

At JCA, we feel this policy enables our instructors the chance to get to know the personality of each child and ensure children have a memorable residential experience. This ratio also means children are suitable supervised and supported at all times.

33 activities available

Activities at Mount Cook have been created to promote teamwork, leadership, communication, resilience, and motivation of others. Covering a broad range of subject and learning outcomes, children can engage in a course of personal development promoting education and fun.
