Paddles up, as students take to their canoes and explore the rivers and waterways of the beautiful British countryside. Full instruction and safety gear will be supplied. Canoeing is a paddle sport in which you kneel or sit facing forward in an open-decked canoe, and propel yourself with a single-bladed paddle. (Kayaking is a similar activity but is usually has a closed deck). Paddle strokes are used to propel and steer the canoe, whether forward, backwards, or laterally.
This introduction to paddling is designed for people with little or no experience. The practical content includes: launching and landing, forward and backward paddling, stopping, forward and reverse sweep strokes, stern rudder and how to capsize in safety. A specialist watersports instructor will be provided for this activity on a ratio of 1:8 children.
