Cholderton Charlie’s Farm is set in rural surroundings on the Wiltshire-Hampshire border. There are lively market towns, pretty villages, bustling cities such as Salisbury, and beautiful open countryside all within easy reach, along with plenty of attractions to keep teams busy.

White Horses
Of the 13 white horse chalk hill figures scattered across the Wiltshire countryside, only eight now remain. The first of Wiltshire’s white horses dates back 878AD, and the most recent was created to mark the Millennium.

 

History and culture 

Andover Museum
Telling Andover’s story from prehistoric times through to present day, this museum is set in a former townhouse c1750 that was once visited by Jane Austen.

 

Avebury
Pretty village partially encompassed by the stone circle of this World Heritage site. It’s one of the most important megalithic monuments in Europe and archaeological finds are on display.

 

Bowood House and Gardens
Family home near Studley nestled in a beautiful historic park with 2000 acres of landscaped gardens created by ‘Capability’ Brown.

 

Iford Manor
Manor house set beside the Frome River, Medieval in origin with a classical façade that was added in the 18th century. There are Grade I listed Italian-style gardens designed by the architect and landscape gardener, Harold Ainsworth Peto.

 

Lydiard House and Park
Beautiful historic parkland on the edge of Swindon with a Palladian house, walled garden, parkland and play area.

 

Mompesson House
Featured in the film Sense and Sensibility, Mompesson House has fine plasterwork, period décor and a grand oak staircase.

 

Museum of Flying
Museum displaying a range of aircraft and a collection of artefacts relating to aviation history.

 

Old Sarum
Two miles from Salisbury stands Old Sarum, a hill fort where a cathedral stood. With history that involves the Romans, Normans and Saxons, the site now retells history through graphic displays.

 

Old Wardour Castle
Castle ruins near Tisbury dating back to the 14th century when it was created as a lightly fortified luxury residence.

 

The Rifles Museum
Museum telling the story of the Infantry of Berkshire and Wiltshire.

 

Rockbourne Roman Villa
Large farming estate where a Roman villa once stood, near Fordingbridge in Hampshire. Its history spans from the Iron Age to the 5th century AD.

 

Salisbury Cathedral
Stunning Medieval cathedral set in eight acres of lawn and surrounded by historic buildings. Climb Britain’s tallest spire and see the Magna Carta during a visit to this famous landmark.

 

Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum
Based in a Grade II listed building opposite Salisbury Cathedral, the museum presents objects and information of significance to the region.

 

STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway
Housed in a restored Grade II railway building in the heart of the former Swindon railway works, this museum tells the story of those who built, operated and travelled on the Great Western Railway.

 

Stonehenge
This impressive World Heritage site in the Wiltshire countryside may have been constructed as a temple for sun worship, a healing centre, a burial site or a huge calendar. Marvel at how the stones were transported such a distance and erected using primitive tools.

 

Stourhead
2,650 acre estate on the Wiltshire-Somerset border with a breathtaking 18th century landscaped garden that includes lakeside walks, mystical grottoes, rare trees and classical temples, along with an abundance of wildlife.

 

Whitchurch Silk Mill
Mill where silk has been woven since the 1820s. Visits can be tailored to the groups requirements and include the history of the site, weaving, textiles and hands-on craft activities.

 

Wilton House
Home to the 18th Earl of Pembroke, this stately home is set in 21 acres of landscaped parkland, with water and rose gardens beside the River Nadder and Palladian Bridge.

Providing an independent art gallery, studios and coffee shop in the centre of Salisbury.


Longleat House and Safari Park
Estate boasting a stunning example of Elizabethan architecture, with gardens and lakes landscaped by ‘Capability’ Brown, and a fantastic drive through safari park.
